Railways has offered Rs 4 lakh accidental insurance coverage to season ticket holders and suggested all daily commuters to avail the facility and avoid the tension of purchasing tickets just before every journey. “The advise is issued for the daily commuters, so that they do not face problem of availability of change and no need to stand in the long queues before journey,” a railway release said, adding it has offered “accidental insurance of Rs four lakh to the season ticket holders”. For a distance between 1-20 km, a passenger would spend only Rs 100 for monthly season ticket (MST) instead of Rs 600 if he purchases ticket everyday for a month for to and fro journeys.
Similarly, a passenger need spend only Rs 270 for quarterly season ticket (QST) for the same distance instead of Rs 1,800 if ticket purchased is regularly for three months for the two journeys, it said. On the other hand, a passenger can travel unlimited trips with MST or QST in local passenger trains. “Railways is providing MST at a cost of only 5 days for to and fro journey upto 20 KMs where a passenger can travel unlimited trips during the month/quarter in local passenger trains between originating to destination Stations and back,”it said.
If a passenger purchases MST, he or she can save Rs 500 per month and Rs 1,530 in three months approximately. On Season Ticket, a passenger can also save Rs 30 by purchasing QST for a distance upto 20 km, it added.
