Following the footsteps of the Centre, Assam government today announced a slew of insurance schemes at nominal rates named 'Atal Amrit Yojana' for citizens in the state who are not covered by any insurance schemes.
Giving details of the scheme, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said it will cost Rs. 200 crore to the state exchequer annually and the state government will issue a smart card at the rate of Rs. 100 per person. The scheme will start from October 2 this year.
For persons Below Poverty Line (BPL) Rs. 100 for the smart card has been exempted. The insurance schemes will provide a cover up-to Rs. 2 lakhs of treatment which includes diseases like Kidney failure and Cancer.
Replying to mediapersons on the eviction drive carried out by the government yesterday where two people were killed in police firing, Mr Sarma said that government acted according to the Supreme court order.
Slamming opposition parties for criticizing government on eviction drive, Mr Sarma said that Congress and other protesting groups were hell bent on protecting illegal occupants of the land in the state. He also hinted the eviction drive will continue in different parts of the state where illegal land has been occupied.
"There is no communal thing in the eviction drive. We are acting according to Supreme Court order. The drive has been carried out to save the indigenous people of the state. It was a ploy of congress government for vote bank politics", Mr Sarma said.
